What is the Genius Project?
The Genius Project is a two year project started in the junior year of high school where students are met with the challenge of creating something they are passionate about and has an overall impact that is larger than themselves. Upon completion of their project seniors craft their very own Ted Talk which is then presented in multiple rounds for classmates and teachers. Every year there is a symposium held at the end of school showcasing the top projects of that year and their outstanding Ted Talk.
My Project
My own project is inspired by my oldest brother who has severe autism. Although, many people will encounter someone who has autism in their life, autism awareness is something that is not taught by many schools or parents. To help explain what autism is and why it is not something to acknowledge as "weird", I plan to create a children's book that parents and teachers are able to use. My book will serve as an educational tool while approaching the topic in a kid friendly and engaging way.
